Basic assistance program

The basic assistance program enables families to survive. Many of the people we represent live in very impoverished conditions and lack access to adequate nutrition, sometimes eating only once a day. Without access to fresh water and food, little can be done to help with the disease and for our other programs to succeed.

Factor-H has been providing basic food assistance to hundreds of families for years, and particularly so during the covid-19 pandemic, when many families lost their employment. Through the local patient associations we support in each country, we have provided monthly assistance packages delivered by our staff and volunteer colleagues. Food, cleaning supplies, vitamins, protein-rich supplements, and covid-19 critical items such as masks, disinfectants and educational brochures have been provided. Currently, we are assisting 450 families between the 3 countries.

The program is financed thus far from unrestricted donations by individual donors and from donations obtained in 2020 and 2021 from the following organizations, who specifically contributed funds or goods to enable this program:

  • Latin Ladies of Houston
  • Ultragenyx
  • The Griffin Foundation

We remain extraordinarily thankful for their support.

We remain indebted to our amazing staff, volunteers and local organizations in Peru, Colombia and Venezuela, who work with us to make life easier for these families.
